As a kid, I was always fascinated by stories my grandad would tell.

He was a general contractor who would repair and maintain barns for the local farmers. He would often describe how he would “Jack up the barns and replace beams and foundations.” I loved hearing about how these amazing buildings were fit together using no metal fasteners; only mortise, tenons, and wooden pegs.

Fast forward 50 years

We are witnessing the destruction of our Ash trees, thanks to the Emerald Ash Borer. The market became flooded making their value little to nothing. Ash trees were dying everywhere and people were giving them away.

Knowing that beautiful structures can be made, I decided to purchase a sawmill and build a few frames, which is how Twisted Oak Timberworks was Born.
